Huddersfield Falcons 10 Scunthorpe 0 - 2nd 15 Premier League Result by Tim Nield

This was a hard won victory for a Huddersfield side made up of a nucleus of men with first-team experience and a number of younger Academy players.  Only two unconverted tries separated the teams at the final whistle, which was a fair measure of the balance of play.  Scunthorpe's backs moved the ball about throughout but their team scarcely mustered a serious threat until the final exciting few minutes.

So exciting for some, in fact, that Huddersfield lost two to yellow cards, but they were able to see out time against a relentless assualt from Scunthorpe which was partly sustained by five consecutive penalties in the Huddersfield 22 in the space of four minutes.

Huddersfield made a lively start with an excellent blind-side try for winger Harry Grimes, a smart break from stand-off Tom Ainsworth catching Scunthorpe cold after only two minutes, but they had to wait until the 64th minute before they stretched themselves beyond a possible single score from the visitors, wing-forward Joe Rotchell claiming the touch-down from a push-over following good work by the forwards from a penalty to the corner.

Scrum-half Stephen Rothery and full back Olley Scrimshaw line-kicked reliably to drive back Scunthorpe when it mattered, Ainsworth was perpetual motion in defence, and no 8 Will Hodgson also impressed.
