What’s so far been a very successful season for Huddersfield Rugby Union Club gained another positive on Saturday when the club were awarded with an award for their impressive youth development system.

Club President Richard Gudgeon was handed the awarded before the win over Caldy at Lockwood Park.

Huddersfield were chosen as the recipients of the award after years of impressive transition from the academy to the first team, culminating in former ‘Field youth player Luther Burrell being picked to play for the national team last year.

Huddersfield-born Burrell, now at Northampton Saints, played in the youth side at Lockwood Park before moving to Leeds Carnegie and making his first team debut aged 19. Since his England debut in 2014 he has been capped a further five times, scoring an impressive 15 points.

President Richard said: “This is very important for the club.

“We’re very appreciative of the fact that Luther started his career here as a junior and that he’s gone on to have the career that he has. We’re very supportive of what he does in his career and wish him every success in the future.”
