Huddersfield RUFC has announced the signing of the Sandal lock Austen Thompson for the 2014/15 season.

Thompson, one of the outstanding performers during this season's National 3 North campaign, will move to Lockwood Park in the summer.

"I am delighted to be joining Huddersfield," said the 24-year-old, who is 6ft 5 inches and 18.4 stone. Thompson added: "I am really looking forward to meeting all the boys and getting down to work. I am now excited to be given the opportunity to challenge myself in the National 2 North, I will be working hard to ensure that I play my part in what promises to be an exciting future for the club."

Huddersfield Head Coach, Gareth Lewis added: "Austen is a fantastic signing, who is a great all-rounder when it comes to the set piece, ball carrying and his ability in defence. He scored against us in the final game of the season showing what a quality aquisition he is."

Hudderfield were promoted back into National 2 North as champions following relegation in the previous season.
