Former Springbok, Andre Snyman, will be joining Huddersfield RUFC as their Backs and Skill Coach for the 2020-21 season.

Snyman earned 38 caps for the Springboks playing at Centre and Wing as well as playing for the Blue Bulls and the Sharks in the Super Rugby Championship.

Playing for Leeds Tykes in the Premiership he famously scored the winning try in the Powergen Cup  Final in the 2006 victory over Bath.  He retired from professional rugby in 2007.

Snyman has recently returned to Yorkshire from the United States, where he enjoyed 5 years as Head coach of Glendale Raptors based in Denver Colorado.  He was named Coach of the Year in 2015 after winning the Pacific Rugby Premiership. He went on to coach them to 'back to back' championship titles in 2016.

In August 2019, Snyman accepted the position of Head Rugby Coach at Hill House School in Doncaster.  He said “Coaching at Hill House gives me the opportunity to coach and develop youth players while also being able to be part of my children's progress“.  “My daughter Keira (12), and my son Cuan (10) both play competitive rugby and I want to be part of their rugby development and to be there for them when they play”.

“Joining Huddersfield RUFC is a natural fit for me and I'm sure coaching at this senior level will be very fulfilling.  As a 'converted' Yorkshireman, I am really looking forward to being part of Gaz Lewis' coaching staff and working towards a successful season”.

“I am very keen for the pre-season to start and looking forward to meeting the players, getting stuck in with the backs and working on their skill sets.  I am also looking forward to being part of the Huddersfield RUFC community and meeting all the members and fans” concluded Snyman.

Head Coach, Gareth (Gaz) Lewis commented.  “I'm delighted to welcome Andre to the Club, he will be a great addition to the coaching team for a whole hosts of reasons.  He is here for his love of the game and his experience at the highest level is second to none, which I'm sure this will rub off on all of our players.”

Lewis continued. “The Club is going through some tough times at the moment with the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, this is a real shot in the arm for the whole Club and any aspiring player wanting to play National League rugby at our great Club.  I can't wait to get started again”.

Huddersfield RUFC Chair of Rugby, Paul Sharrock added:  “It's great to welcome a coach of Andre's quality and experience to the Club, especially with it being very much in-line with our players return to amateur status for the coming season.”
