Paddy Walsh (1942 – 2011) - HRUFC patron: an obituary and funeral arrangements

Paddy Walsh

It is with deep sadness that HRUFC advises the death of patron and long-term supporter Patrick Walsh (better known as Paddy) on Tuesday, 27th September, after a short and bravely-fought battle against cancer. He was 69 years old.

Paddy, a delightfully charming and popular Irishman, was well known to many through his lifelong work in the textile industry, forging friendships all around the world.

In his retirement, he did lots of volunteer work locally, and spent many hours at the rugby club doing all sorts of helpful work, latterly collecting money at the gate on matchdays and acting as HRUFC's subscriptions secretary.

He was born in Ireland, had five sisters and a brother, and came to Huddersfield when he was 21 to continue his textile studies at the polytechnic. He was married to Gill in 1968, who sadly pre-deceased him, with a similar illness seven years ago.

He will be very sadly missed, and all our thoughts are with his two daughters Rachel and Tara.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

Thursday, 6th October at 11.30am, at the English Martyrs' Church, Dalton, followed by a private family service at Huddersfield Crematorium. The wake will be at HRUFC (Lockwood Park) from 12.30pm onwards.
