MORLEY v HRUFC MATCH PREVIEW

Published: 24/03/2017

After a week’s break, Huddersfield Rugby Union travel to neighbours Morley, in a Yorkshire derby, which could see them clinch the title if results go their way.

If Huddersfield win and second placed Rossendale, lose to Hull, the Field would be victorious in winning the league title.

Last time Huddersfield played they ran out 83-0 winners, against bottom of the table Stockport, scoring 13 tries in the process, despite players playing out of position.

Having a free weekend last week, Head Coach, Gareth Lewis, believes the rest have benefited his sides preparation. “The squad is refreshed after the break and fully prepared for a tough contest and Morley away always a tough test and given their league position we expect it to be exactly that.”

Morley, who are sat in 10th place in the table, Lewis doesn’t quite know how a side with the quality they have, are battling to stay in the division “They have some excellent players and I’m not quite sure how they have got themselves into a difficult situation.”

Lewis expects his side to not get complacent when they visit Morley, “The next game is always your biggest game and we must concentrate on playing to our maximum.”

Chris Bell returns to fly-half, after missing the game against Stockport, meaning the versatile Lewis Workman, starts centre alongside Tom Owen.

Kristian Sharples, who started full-back last time out, isn’t included in the squad, meaning Danny Grainger returns to full-back.

Alex Battye returns to captain the side in prop alongside Callum Thompson.

Nick Sharpe and Elliot Knight, who both got themselves a hat-trick against Stockport keep their places in number 8 and on the wing respectively

Ben Hoyle is also back in the side, meaning youngster Harvey Keighley-Payne returns to play for the Falcons.

Morley played Hull last weekend which was the only fixture in the league, Hull ran out 27-19 winners. Despite Morley being tenth, they are only 5 points from Firwood Waterloo who are 13th, so they will be hoping for a positive result.

In the reverse fixture, the Field impressed in a 67-3 victory, with the side scoring nine tries, with nine different scorers.
