MATCH REPORT - HRUFC V HULL

Huddersfield RUFC jumped back on track convincingly, defeating Hull in the Saturday afternoon’s clash between the two sides at Lockwood Park. 

Huddersfield smashed their opponents by 26 points to 11 showing they’ve banished all the unpleasant memories from their last game against Caldy.

The victory keeps Huddersfield just one point behind Caldy which are 8th in the league’s table with 19 points.

Huddersfield was the team which dominated in eighty minutes full of harsh challenges and numerous penalties. 

The first twenty minutes of the game was marked with attempts from both sides to impose control and home team was the first to do it.

After the 10th minute Huddersfield started to dominate on the pitch but good Hull defence stopped all their efforts.

The first serious chance for opening the score came in the 20th minute when a penalty for Hull was judged. It was taken by Gregory Lound but he missed.

Just several minutes later, another penalty was missed by Gregory Lound and guests were immediately punished for that. 

Huddersfield managed to impose control and started attacking aggressively which was followed by immediate success.

In the 33rd minute Thomas Hodson opened the result scoring a try and put his team 5-point ahead. Joel Hinchliffe completed the Conversion making the score 7-0. 

Five minutes later, in the 39th minute, Hull received a third penalty. Gregory Lound was accurate this time and teams went into the break with the score table showing 7-3.

The second half started with a pressure on side of Hull and in the 3rd minute they scored a try.  Goal scorer was James Kirk who made the result 7-8.

The following Conversion was missed as Gregory Lound hit the post. 

But Huddersfield managed to quickly respond with a massive pressure and in the 8th minute Joel Hinchliffe gave his team the lead again, scoring a try. It was Hinchliffe again who completed the following Conversion to make it 14-8.

Nine minutes later Austen Thompson scored a scrappy try extending Huddersfield’s advantage to 19-8. 

The following Conversion was missed by Joel Hinchliffe.

The team from Hull responded with several aggressive attacks and in the 29th minute Gregory Lound scored a penalty making the result 19-11. 

But three minutes later, Nicholas Sharpe broke all guests’ hopes forcing the ball over the line and leaving Hull far behind in the score.

Joel Hinchliffe completed the Conversion making the final score 26-11.

Hull put on a late pressure but team’s efforts were not enough to prevent a home win.
