Being 35 metres longer than Ribblehead viaduct and nearly 10 metres taller, the mighty Lockwood viaduct near Huddersfield will act as the iconic backdrop for the biggest event yet being organised for, and right next to, the Stage 2 route of Le Grand Départ of the Tour de France next July.

Lockwood Park has joined forces with Heckmondwike’s Crown of Lights festival specialist Donal O'Driscoll and New Mill sound expert and promoter Darren Hollingworth to put on a three day sports and live music extravaganza called Le Tour Fest 2014. The idyllic setting covering 24 acres will be transformed into a village providing parking, camping, food and drink and indeed proper indoor hot showers. Saunas and even a gym will also be available for campers as well.

The event will host some of the very best live music that West Yorkshire can offer with 20 bands and artists already secured. A huge LED screen will be used to show every bit of the demanding Yorkshire stages of the Tour de France and in the evenings an on site film crew will project all the live music onto the huge screen.

Mr O'Driscoll had this to say about the event. "After 4 months planning and hard work, we’re delighted to be working closely with Lockwood Park and in particular Huddersfield RUFC and Lockwood Park Health & Fitness Club. They completely accept and are fully on board with what we're trying to achieve here in giving everyone who attends this three day event a very warm Yorkshire welcome and an unforgettable experience. We're even extending the camping period to three days before and six days after the weekend itself to allow people from further afield the time to cycle the stages for themselves or just go out and explore this fantastic county."

As far as music festivals and camping are concerned the organisers are providing a lot of creature comforts not normally associated with such events including multiple bars, TV screens, secure cycle lockup, phone charging, WiFi and changing facilities. Carrie France the catering manager for the rugby club will be working closely with the organisers to provide added comfort for the campers. She said, "We've got all facilities available to provide indoor sit down meals throughout the event. We think our early morning full English breakfasts are going to be very popular with the cyclists who want to speed off to the special vantage points that are so close to us including Holme Moss."

Tickets for the event will be available shortly and people are being urged to submit their details if they wish to be notified as soon as tickets are on sale. Visit or text 07957 765573. Residents local to the event will be leafleted shortly with special price offers.
