HRUFC v STOCKPORT PREVIEW

Published: 10/03/2017

Huddersfield Rugby Union will be hoping to continue their unbeaten league form as they face, bottom of the table Stockport, at Lockwood Park, Saturday afternoon. (Kick-off 3pm)

Although, Field got back to winning ways last weekend with a 26-10 victory over Lymm, the performance disappointed Head Coach, Gareth Lewis, “Last week’s performance was very frustrating as we struggled to get any momentum and struggled to build up the phases.”

However, with a solid weeks training, Huddersfield will be hoping to put things right this weekend with a good performance in front of their home fans, Lewis added, “Training has been good this week with smiles back on faces as we build towards the weekend.”

Ever present fly-half, Chris Bell is away this weekend. So the versatile Lewis Workman covers Bell this weekend, and Lewis has been impressed with Workman’s performances this season. “He’s had an excellent season and it’s great to see a home grown player progress the way he has done.”

19-year-old, Harvey Keighley-Payne, gets another opportunity with the first team after impressing on his debut last month away to Firwood Waterloo and Lewis is excited to see the youngster back in the side. “Harvey deserves his chance and this opportunity shows what hard work and dedication can bring. Lewis added, “I’m looking forward to seeing him transfer Falcons performances into that of a National League rugby player.”

Joel Hinchliffe returns to the side this weekend, after missing the last two games.
Kristian Sharples deputises at full-back, as Danny Grainger moves to the wing, Elliot Knight starts on the other side.

Club Captain, Alex Battye starts as a replacement, so Austen Thompson leads the side as Captain.

In the reverse fixture, Field ran out 87-0 winners with an impressive 13 tries. Lewis still expects Stockport to pose a threat, “Will will treat Stockport with total respect. They have made improvements in their performances in recent weeks and we must concentrate on doing the basics well for 80 minutes.”  Stockport, who are yet to a win in National League Three North, narrowly lost last weekend to Firwood Waterloo, 24-12, and will be hoping for a similar performance this week.
