HRUFC NEW SIGNINGS

Huddersfield will be hoping that their new recruits can be the weapons they need in the fight for the title.

With injuries to key senior players like Ben Morrill and coupled with the unavailability of Laurence Sanderson, Field will be glad to have brought in some quality players.

In the form of Tom Bills, Gareth Richardson and Dan Jeffrey, first team coach Gareth Lewis hopes that the clubs widespread success will continue.

He said: “Tom approached us which was obviously very encouraging as it shows we are now attracting players.  Along with Dan’s pedigree and Gareth’s experience, I’m obviously delighted to secure all three lads.

Bouyed by the fact they can attract young players like Bills, who has impressed with his kicking game, the future looks bright for Field.

Lewis said: “Tom is able to play in a number of positions across the back line and remains Bradford & Bingley’s top point scorer at this moment in time. He has an excellent kicking game and gives us added competition in the half back role.

Having suffered injury himself earlier this season against Beverley, Lewis will be glad to call upon his old friend Richardson, to provide some crucial cover for the forwards.

Lewis said: “Gareth is someone I’ve known for a long time from the 'Halifax glory years'. Although he's been out of the game for a while he will bring experience, excellent scrummaging ability and he can also be a very destructive ball barrier.

Having previously represented the Army, Old Crossleyans and Halifax, in which he played for 10 years in National Leagues, including at Twickenham for the Intermediate Powergen Cup in 2001, Richardson could have huge impact just in time for the end of the season.

Lewis said: “Since losing Laurence Sanderson and Ben Morrill we have been very light on front cover and Gareth will come to support Tony Stringwell, James Davies and Alex Battye".

'Field can then name Jeffrey, who has a wealth of potential having come through Leeds Carnegie’s academy system. From one side of the world to the other, Field will hope their new arrival lives up to his impressive credentials.

Lewis said: “Dan has been playing in the Sydney Premier competition in Australia which shows his quality. He fits the bill in terms of good young local players we are looking to recruit and I’m sure he has a big future at the club".
