DANNY BROUGH TAKES CHARGE OF BACKS TRAINING SESSION

Giants captain Danny Brough has taken charge of a Huddersfield Rugby Union Club training session – and loved every minute of it.

The 2013 Super League Man of Steel took time out of his international rugby league commitments with Scotland to pass on some tips to the backs of the town’s National II North club.

Brough accepted the invitation to coach the players from the 15-a-side code from Huddersfield RU head coach Gareth Lewis.

And with Brough’s sons, William and Henry, having moved to Lockwood Park now their summer league commitments with Newsome Panthers have come to an end, the Giants star was only too happy to switch codes ahead of Scotland’s opening European Championship clash against Wales at Wrexham on Friday night.

“Gaz is a really good lad and I’m only too happy to help,” said Brough.

“I’ve always enjoyed going down to Lockwood Park to watch a game, and the people are always really nice and friendly.

“Obviously, the fact my lads have signed up for the club has made me take even more interest in what goes on down there – in fact, I took an Under 10s training session last weekend as well – and helping out like this is something I really enjoy.

“To be honest, I’d be happy to help any local club.”

And even though Brough has been coaching a different code of rugby, he’s not found the task too arduous.

“When it comes to the two codes of rugby, there’s not that much difference in the backs,” he added.

“The defensive lines in union are a bit closer, so you have to be a bit quicker to shift the ball out.

“But, other than that, it’s a case of catch, pass and run decent lines. That’s the key to success in either code.”
