Playing in National League 2 North, we are one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world dating back to 1870 and have just celebrated the centenary of our re-formation as a wholly amateur club in 1909 -- together with the 40th anniversary of our pioneering mini-rugby in England in 1969. Few clubs can claim to have bought a brewery but we did in 1996 when we took ownership of the former 26 acre Lockwood Park brewery estate where we now have four rugby pitches plus an all-weather Astroturf pitch with parking for 300 cars. The main floodlit ground has a capacity of 1500 with seating for 500.
Additionally HRUFC has clubs catering for hockey, squash, road running, Aussie rules football and a bowling club which boasts one of the finest greens in Northern England and on August 29 host the Yorkshire Bowling Cup final. Tucked away too within the huge clubhouse is the Borough Club for the town's serious snooker players
Within our huge property complex our tenants include the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, Fitness First, Prime Time Recruitment together with many other business enterprises. Our clubhouse also provides excellent conference and hospitality facilities and has become a favoured choice for major local functions such as weddings and for the dear departed.
